Blue Eagles Sisters in GOtv perfect start
Blue Eagles Sisters have underlined their credentials in GOtv Netball Champions League third edition after winning all their games, including handing holders, Complex Tigresses, first defeat of the season.
The competition threw-off on Saturday at Katoto Secondary in Mzuzu where Eagles topped their group with six points.
Eagles were seeded in the GOtv-Plus group alongside Tigresses, Mzuzu-based debutants in the competition, Mimosa, and the Malawi Armed Forces College (Mafco). The police officers (Eagles) made their intentions clear on Saturday morning when they swept aside Mafco 55-16.The second match against the defending champions in the afternoon was never a stroll in the park as the police officers almost lost the plot in the second quarter which had Tigresses leading 17-18. The cops turned the tables to win the third 28-27 then 40-37.
Eagles immensely benefitted from the experience of attacking centre, Takondwa Lwazi.
The presence of under -20 player, Ruth Kaliyenda as goal attacker, was also crucial in relieving pressure from experienced shooter, Joyce Mvula.
Eagles won their last match on Sunday 68-24 against rookies Mimosa. Mimosa failed to register a win in the first round.
Eagles coach, Sam Kanyenda, said it was a morale boosting start.
“We will build on it. However, we will not get complacent,” he said.
