Barely a month after winning Sarpcco football trophy in Swaziland, Blue Eagles travel to Tanzania for two strength-testing matches this weekend against Yanga FC and Mbeya City FC.
The police-sponsored outfit is expected to travel to Dar es Salaam this Thursday with the games scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday.
The Eagles’ team manager, Gabriel Chirwa, confirmed yesterday that the invitation came from Smart Sports of
Tanzania through the Super League of Malawi (Sulom).
“They (Smart Sports) have pledged to fund the trip, including accommodation and transport. Initially, we were supposed to travel to Tanzania last week, but Yanga were participating in a bonanza,” said Chirwa on Monday.
“We are travelling with a squad of 25 players, including officials because they indicated that they will only be able to pay accommodation for 25 people.”
Chirwa said the friendly match would help his charges to fine-tune for the TNM Super League second round.
Sulom treasurer, Tiya Somba-Banda, also confirmed giving the Eagles’ the green-light to travel to Tanzania as the domestic league only resumes next month.
“Smart Sports from Tanzania called us on August 5, 2015 seeking for an international friendly involving Blue Eagles, Yanga and Mbeya City FC,” said Somba-Banda.
“I asked them to put the proposal in writing and detail all the requirements plus what Eagles will be given. Then they wrote back in the evening detailing all they will provide to Blue Eagles.”
The Eagles’ finished the Super League first round on position four with 23 points.
