Blue Eagles unsure of coach’s return

Management of Blue Eagles is unsure on whether or not to recall suspended Head Coach, Audlow Makonyola.

Eagles suspended Makonyola indefinitely last month due to the team’s dismal performance in the TNM Super League.

Eagles General Secretary, Ulemu Kalua, on Wednesday said he was not sure if Makonyola would return to the team.

“Firstly, we have to wait until the end of the season to map the way forward. At the end of every season, we meet and make decisions. But we are happy that the team has made tremendous progress in the league in recent games,” Kalua said.

Eagles are on position five on the league’s log table with 41 points from 26 points, 17 points behind leaders, Be Forward Wanderers.

Makonyola said he was in the dark about the duration of his suspension.

“Despite that some teams have showed interest in me, I am taking a breather,” the former Eagles Strikers and Epac coach said.

Interim Coach, Christopher Sibale, is in charge of Eagles whereas Wilson Chidati was maintained as assistant.

Makonyola was suspended when Eagles were on position four on the league’s log table. In domestic football, suspended coaches rarely come back.

Makonyola was accused of failing to enforce discipline in the team.

Under Sibale, Eagles have beaten Azam Tigers (2-0), Mzuni FC (1-0), Blantyre United (1-0) and lost 3-0 to Nyasa Big Bullets and Chitipa United (2-1).

In the Fisd Challenge Cup, Eagles beat Chitipa and Mzuni before losing 8-7 to Bullets on post-match penalties in the quarter-finals.

In the past four years, Eagles have finished in the league’s top-four but the cops have never won the league title.
