Blue Eagles wary of Karonga United

Blue Eagles coach Eliya Kananji has said he is not reading too much into Karonga United’s slow start to the season as the two sides meet at Nankhaka Stadium this afternoon.
The two sides march into this afternoon’s match with contrasting fortunes in the opening stages of the season.
Eagles are undefeated in the opening four matches of the season but dropped points for the first time after a 1-1 stalemate against Nyasa Big Bullets at the same venue last Saturday.
This afternoon’s match provides Kananji and his troops with a perfect opportunity to reclaim top spot after they were dislodged by Bullets following a 1-0 win over Dedza Dynamos at Balaka Stadium on Wednesday.
Eagles are second on the log table with 10 points from four matches, just behind Bullets on number of goals scored.
They have scored five goals against Bullets’ seven goals but they have the same goal difference of four.
Ahead of the match, Kananji said his charges must exercise caution.
“Karonga are a good team and they deserve respect. We should not relax. We also have a tough match against Red Lions on Wednesday,” Kananji, whose charges have won against Mafco (1-0), Rumphi United (2-0) and Moyale Barracks 1-0 said.
On the part of Karonga, they are still searching for their first win of the season having lost twice and drawn the same number of games in four matches. They are in the relegation zone on position 14 with two points.
Karonga Team Manager Wilberforce Longwe said his charges were on a serious mission in Lilongwe.
“We are geared for the two matches. We want to return to Karonga with maximum points,” he said.
Karonga will be in action again tomorrow when they face Civil Service United at Civo Stadium.
At Kamuzu Stadium, Mighty Wanderers host rookies Sable Farming in another potentially explosive match.
The Nomads are coming from a 1-0 victory over Moyale Barracks away in Mzuzu whereas Sable stunned Red Lions 2-0 at Mpira Stadium.
The two sides are separated by two points as Wanderers are on position six with seven points from four matches whereas Sable are on position 11 with five points from the same number of matches.
Kamuzu Barracks will be in action against Moyale Barracks at Civo Stadium this afternoon. Wakawaka Tigers host Red Lions at Mpira Stadium.
