Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board President, Lonzoe Zimba, has vowed that his body will not sanction an eight-round non-title bout between Salimu Chazama and Laston Kaira in Lilongwe on Sunday.
Zimba yesterday said it was risky for Chazama to bounce back into the ring at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe, barely a week after losing in Tanzania.
“I have just heard about the fight. That fight will not take place. If it goes ahead, the boxer risks being banned for three months,” Zimba said, adding that a boxer can fight again after two weeks.
He added that they assess a boxer’s medical report in between fights and the nature of a loss also determines the duration for a break.
In Tanzania, Chazama lost to Ramadhani Shauri on a split points’ decision.
Earlier, Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions Managing Director, Patrick Ngwenyama, said his stable had organised the bout to contribute to boxing development.
However, the possibility of the bout now hangs in the balance.
Five supporting bouts were scheduled to spice up the headliner.
In the main supporting bout, Robert Kachiza is scheduled to meet Acras Mchombo, whereas Alexander Likande faces Limbani Chikapa in another curtain-raiser.
Dickson Saidi will square up against Gift Phiri before Yusuf Ali and Yamikani Mkandawire slug it out.
The stable has also arranged a bout involving female boxers, Enelesi Nkhwathi and Lucy Phiri
