Bob Mpinganjira agrees 3-year deal with Wanderers
Be Forward Wanderers Coach Bob Mpinganjira has agreed a three-year extension to his contract at the Lali Lubani Road outfit.
This means Mpinganjira has commited his future to Wanderers until 2023.
His deal with the Nomads expired at the end of last season and was widely expected to get an extension despite finishing the 2019 season empty handed.
The ban on football due to the Covid-19 pandemic delayed negotiations on a new deal but the two parties have now finalised the deal.
Mpinganjira Thursday confirmed that a new deal had been agreed in principle.
“Everything is in place and I am happy with the discussions I had with management of the team. I expect to sign a new contract very soon,” he said.
Mpinganjira was promoted to the head coach’s position at Wanderers after the departure of veteran trainer Yasin Osman in 2018.
The club also roped in Oscar Kaunda from Civil Sporting as an assistant to Mpinganjira.
Bob’s young brother, Albert, is also part of the back room staff at Lali Lubani Road.
Wanderers have shown faith in their legends while rivals Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers have employed foreign coaches.
Bullets have Zimbabwean Kallisto Pasuwa while Silver hired Daniel Kabwe of Zambia.
Bullets have since extended Pasuwa’s deal by one year whereas Silver recruited Zambian Daniel Kabwe on a two-year contract early this year.
Wanderers General Secretary, Victor Maunde, declined to shed more light on the matter, saying he was not part of the committee negotiating the deal with the Nomads legend.
“I recused myself from the negotiations, so I do not have details about it. There was a special committee working on the matter,” Maunde said.
The former Nomads striker also works with Malawi national football team Coach Meck Mwase as a physical trainer alongside Lovemore Fazili who is an assistant coach.
Mpinganjira was part of the Wanderers technical panel that won the TNM Super League title in 2017 and the Fisd Challenge Cup in the following season.
Wanderers lost the grip at the summit of the elite league towards the end of last season to surrender the lead to rivals Nyasa Big Bullets who went on to lift the title.
This was the first time in five years that the Nomads had finished a season without silverware
