Bollore falls in love with golf
Bollore Transport and Logistics Limited has committed to sponsoring another golf competition next year after getting impressed with the turnup of players at a competition the company sponsored at Nchalo Golf Club in Chikwawa District over the weekend.
Managing Director Phillippe Niamkey said his company sponsored the tournament in appreciation of the support it gets from Illovo Malawi.
“We get a lot of support from Illovo and there could be no better place to host this tournament than Nchalo Golf Club. We are happy that golfers came in their large numbers to compete and we are encouraged. This gives us every reason to come back next year,” Niamkey said.
He then presented a cheque worth K200,000 to Nchalo Golf Club for maintenance of the greens.
The club’s coach, Bregger Kayingwe, taught the 49 competitors a golfing lesson when he emerged champion with a gross of 39 points.
Kayingwe played off a handicap of seven.
He was followed by Mark Chitatanga who grossed 37 points while Tarang Makhecha came third with 32 points.
Kayingwe said, as a coach, he just had to win the tournament to show fellow golfers how to win in the scorching heat of Nchalo.
“I am very happy to win. Today, I fully utilised home ground advantage,” said Kayingwe.
In the ladies category, Teri Amaru emerged champion after beating her only competitor, Wilma Chalulu.
During the tournament, veteran golfer John Magombo hit a hole-in-one on hole number 18.
Magombo also topped the seniors’ category with 34 points.
