Botsalt netball finals on

Thirteen teams have qualified for the Botsalt Under-23 Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) finals slated for Blantyre Youth Centre this weekend.
The two-day finals will throw-off Saturday with developmental teams tussling for the K550,000 prize money and a trophy.
Runners-up will get K350,000 while the third-placed side will pocket K200,000.
SRNL General Secretary Charity Gondwe said the competition had borne some fruits over the years, with five players earning call ups to the Malawi Under-20 National Netball Team.
“The tournament has been a great success since inception. We are looking forward to stiff competition on Saturday and Sunday.
“Through this tournament, we have sent five players to the under-20 national team. This is a huge milestone for our league,” Gondwe said.
She said players for teams that would qualify for the final would undergo an age verification exercise aimed at doing away with age-cheating.
“The players will be required to present national identity cards to their respective district committees. We will also ask them to produce their latest Maneb [Malawi National Examinations Board] identity cards,” Gondwe said.
The competition will have new champions after last year’s winners, Zomba Airwing, were eliminated at district level.
The following teams qualified for the competition: Mchere Sisters (Nsanje), Lisungwi Sisters (Neno), Standard Sisters (Mulanje), Chikwawa Queens, Luchenza Queens (Thyolo), Admarc Sisters (Balaka), Migowi Young Sisters (Phalombe), Ngumbe (Blantyre Rural), Chipea Sisters (Zomba), Chiradzulu Sisters, Machinga Super Eagles, Marine Queens (Mangochi) and Mwanza Queens.
