Boxer Salimu Chazama slams judges

Former national lightweight champion, Salimu Chazama, has launched a stinging attack on fellow boxer, Osgood Kayuni, and local judges ahead of tomorrow’s junior welterweight title contest in Lilongwe.

Chazama will meet Kayuni in a 12-round title contest at M1 Centre Point.

This will be a rematch after Kayuni won on a split points’ decision on December 26 last year.

Last year’s contest split Kamuzu Barracks Club to which both boxers belong with most supporting Kayuni. Both boxers are soldiers.

Some quarters criticised Chazama for a bad attitude.

Now Chazama has said he has lost faith in most local judges.

He added that it would be suicidal for him if the fight goes to the wire as the judges might favour Kayuni.

“I will not leave the fight in the judges’ hands. I am going for a knock-out. Last time, I was bitter with their decision. I felt that I won and some quarters even agreed but the judges gave the fight to Kayuni,” Chazama said.

However, Kayuni said he would not waste time commenting on the past.

“If he says that he was robbed of victory, then it is history. It cannot be changed. Let us just concentrate on the forthcoming title fight,” he said.

Meka Boxing Promotions has organised the bill. The stable’s Managing Director, Gomez Mwandira, said he was impressed with the boxers’ preparations.
