Celebrated United Kingdom-based comedian Daliso Chaponda said on Wednesday people will shake off stress during a stand-up comedy show at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre on Sunday.
Speaking during a press conference at the hotel, Daliso, who is expected to share the stage with Kenyan-born British stand-up comedian Imran Yusuf, said he was geared and energised to deliver a good performance.
“This is going to be my seventh time performing in the country and every time I come, I get overwhelmed by the immense reception I get from people who patronise my events,” he said.
The once British Got Talent finalist, who held two VIP solo shows early this year in Lilongwe, underscored the importance of supporting the creative sector and called on people to come in large numbers.
Reiterating Daliso’s remarks, Amaryllis Hotel general manager Ramy Waheed pledged continued support to the arts industry by providing a platform and space for arts activities.
Waheed added that Amaryllis Hotel plans on launching stand-up comedy special open mic sessions soon to give stand-up comedians an opportunity to network and showcase their talent.
“We plan to organise a series of workshops for local stand-up comedians that will be facilitated by professionals with the aim of boosting knowledge within the trade and growing creativity among comedians,” Waheed said.
Entertainers Promotions Director Tonderai Banda, whose company is one of the major partners of the event, said all was set for the stand-up comedy show.
“As Team Entertainers, we have decided to widen our spectrum by including comedy in our activities, we usually go with the flow of serving people’s cravings and we cannot live past the fact that now people are craving for comedy more than ever hence organising this event,” Tonderai said.
The show on Sunday will be hosted by Times Television presenter Mimi with Mzati and Mcluther Mambala offering their sound.
Apart from Amaryllis Hotel and Entertainers Promotions, other partners of the event include Times Group through Times Television, Gold Mountain Media, Buy Big Malawi, Inspire Marketing Group and Satsuru.
After the Blantyre encounter, Daliso will then invade Lilongwe on August 13 to perform at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) where he will share the stage with Uganda’s Salvado and Yusuf.
Unlike Yusuf who is performing in the country for the first time, Salvado has been here before with Daliso.
