Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) champions, Bravehearts, have hired Zimbabwean William Chimwachele as Technical Director (TD) ahead of next month’s Harare Mayors Invitational Tournament.
Chimwachele has signed a six-month performance-based contract which is subject to renewal, Bravehearts Patron, Griffin Kalua, said on Wednesday.
Kalua said the experienced Zimbabwean has been hired ahead of two crucial tournaments this year.
“In preparation for the Harare Mayors Tournament in August and Fiba Club Championship in October, we have hired a technical manager; highly decorated with more than 30 years of experience in coaching and development programmes. His main job is to develop the skills of our youth, ladies and men’s teams and mentor our coaches,” Kalua said.
Chimwachele said he was looking forward to working in Malawi, hoping to improve the country’s basketball.
“Bravehearts have very good structures and the players are talented. I have found a group of dedicated and hard-working players in the team. I am sure, together, we can build very strong teams,” Kalua said.
Bravehearts, who also have Zimbabwean players in the men’s and ladies teams, are eyeing the Fiba Championship, which is scheduled for Botswana.
Last month, Bravehearts men’s and ladies’ teams participated in the Kingdom of eSwatini [formerly Swaziland] Invitational Tournament.
During the tournament, the men’s team exited the competition in the quarter-final whereas the ladies finished as runners-up.
