Bravehearts off to eSwatini
By Mabvuto Kambuwe:
Local basketball giants, Bravehearts, Monday left the country for eSwatini’s 2019 Basketball Challenge scheduled for June 23 in Mbabane.
The travelling contingent includes ladies’ and men’s teams.
Ahead of the tournament, the two teams will play some friendlies tomorrow in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Bravehearts men’s will face Jozi Nuggets whereas the ladies’ team takes on Nuggets Ladies at Mandeville Eastgate.
Bravehearts Patron, Griffin Kalua, said the two teams are geared to improve on last year’s performance.
“We have prepared well for the tournament and the players are in great shape. Our aim is to win the tournament so that we prove that there are good teams in Malawi,” Kalua said.
Bravehearts Ladies Coach, Lusungu Banda, said her charges were confident of victory in the tournament.
“After failing to go far last year, we will do everything to get things right this year. My players are eager to get positive results,” Banda said.
Last year, Bravehearts men’s lost in the semi-finals whereas the ladies finished as runners-up after going down to Green Stars of Zimbabwe.
Bravehearts have been taking part in international tournaments in eSwatini, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Tanzania.
G.Y. Imports and Exports sponsors the men’s team whereas Bravehearts Tradings bankrolls the ladies’ side.
