Bravehearts reign supreme in Cezobal

Bravehearts Men’s and ladies basketball teams were crowned champions of Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) after winning their respective matches at Civo Basketball Court in Lilongwe on Saturday night.

In a best-of-three series, Bravehearts men’s team triumphed 2-0 against Cougars to win a third consecutive title whereas the ladies team beat Angels by a similar margin for a fourth straight title.

For a third consecutive year, since Bravehearts men’s were promoted to the main league, they have also finished the 2019 season unbeaten.

Henry Chiza of Bravehearts was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) whereas Petra Mapondo won a similar accolade in the ladies category.

In league B, Central Spartans were crowned champions after beating Bravehearts Youth 2-1 in the best-of-three series whereas Lady Dynamites Youth also emerged champions after beating Bravehearts Ladies Youth.

Bravehearts Patron and Coach, Griffin Kalua, was excited with the teams exploits in Cezobal.

“We are undefeated in four seasons in which our first year we started in league B and went unbeaten then three seasons now in main league undefeated as well. Our challenge is now to win international tournaments. We made Finals in Zambia tournament in 2017 and we hope to write in 2020,” he said.

Champions and runners-up in League B automatically earn promotion to main the league.

However, Kalua said Bravehearts Youth will remain in the League B as they were a developmental outfit.

“Our youth team is now feeding the senior team with pure Malawian talent soon we want to contribute players to the national team, that’s our goal as well,” he said.
