Central Zone Basketball League champions, Bravehearts (men), claimed silver medal at Zambia Invitational Tournament held in Lusaka over the weekend.

Bravehearts lost 86- 70 to Zambia’s giants, Matero Magic, in the final of the competition, which also attracted teams from Zimbabwe and Tanzania. It was reportedly a balanced game.

Bravehearts were the only foreign team that reached the semi-finals after Zimbabwe and Tanzania outfits were dumped out in the early stages of the tournament.

Central Knights from Lilongwe also failed to reach the semi-finals.

Bravehearts Ladies exited the competition at the quarter-final stage.

Five Malawi’s teams, including Lady Dynamites and Cougars Ladies, participated in the competition.

Bravehearts’ Patron and Head Coach, Griffin Kalua, in an interview from Zambia, said he was satisfied with his charges’ performance.

“I thank my players for showing great character throughout the competition. We have proved to them that basketball is growing in Malawi,” Kalua said.

“I think, in future, we will do better. Slowly, we are getting the much-needed experience to compete against big teams.”

Last year, Bravehearts and Knights took part in Swaziland Invitational Tournament.

Bravehearts also hosted an international tournament in Lilongwe last year.
