The last time they shared the ring as a family, they ended up on the losing side.

Now Agnes Mtimaukanena- Mwando and her husband, Brian, return to the ring Saturday hoping to open a better chapter.

Three years ago when the family took to the ring together, Agnes lost to Fortunate Chidzivo, whereas Mwando was knocked out by Chimwemwe Chiotcha.

Tomorrow, Agnes meets Tanzanian, Marium Salitiel, in a six-round non-title welter-weight fight at Robins Park in Blantyre in the main fight.

Brian will feature in the main supporting fight when he takes on Bright Mdoka in a super middle-weight fight.

Agnes said she was rebuilding her career after recording two straight wins since returning from maternity break.

“I don’t want to dent my record. Shortly, I want to go for a title fight, hence I don’t want any defeat to ruin my plans,” she said.

Agnes has two defeats, two draws and five wins. Meanwhile, boxrec.com does not have any record for the Tanzanian boxer.

Brian said he was also vying for a win to restore his battered image.

Mwando, 23, has lost seven fights and won a similar number of fights.

In other fights, Henry Muyaya meet Chikondi Makawa whereas Moses Mahilasi faces Brighton Mcheni. Brighton Mwando will take on Hajison Mkoka.

Meanwhile, matchmaker Steve Mawenzi Msiska was confident that the Tanzanian boxer together with her trainer, Omari Yazidu, will arrive in the country by today.

“Of course, they were at Tanzanian border early [yesterday], but they should be able to arrive on time before the weigh-in session,” he said.

In a related development, Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) will use the fight to award a professional licence to Brighton Mwando and Brighton Mcheni.

MPBCB spokesperson, Frank Chibisa, said the pair had been participating in semi-professional fights recently.

“We have monitored their growth and we are delighted with their performance,” Chibisa said.
