At Escom Ground, United took the lead through Nigerian Ezekiel Olasunkami but Hard Knockers leveled matters through Innocent Chilima.

Eventually, the former Nyasa Big Bullets’ striker scored the late winner to register his ninth goal since re-joining the team in the second round.

United owner and Technical Director, Lawson Nakoma, said competition was stiff as top-three teams are eyeing Super League promotion.

“We are in serious business to return to the top-flight league, but it will not be easy. What we are doing is to play our games and see how the rest will perform,” Nakoma said.

In other games played on Wednesday, Misheck Botoman and Osman Balaka were on target for Mitra during their game against Matamando.

Icons have 58 points from 29 matches. Lower Shire based side, Chikwawa United, are on third place with 58 points from 31 games after drawing 2-2 with Cobbe Barracks at Zomba Community Centre.

Former Silver Strikers’ midfielder, Ian Banda and Lumbaniso Mukumbwa, scored a goal each for Chikwawa while Dickson Mbetewa Jnr grabbed a brace for the soldiers.
