TNM Super League champions Nyasa Big Bullets are fearing the unknown after the team’s injury list rose to six following captain John Lanjesi’s withdrawal from training last week.

Lanjesi withdrew from training after complaining of thigh pains and joined midfielders Aziz Mwakifuna, Precious Phiri, Righteous Banda, defender Pilirani Zonda and goalkeeper Rabson Chiyenda on the injury list.

Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga said they were concerned with the rate of injuries hitting the People’s Team after Lanjesi withdrew from training complaining of an injury that kept him out for over a year.

“These injuries are now worrisome; we do not know whether it is the physical intensity of our game or the long layoff we had due to Covid. This is so disturbing to the club, players and technical officials,” he said.

Ironically, Bullets Vice Captain Chimango Kaira also returned from injury last month after a long layoff.

Another midfielder-cum-defender Ben Manyozo also just started training recently after weeks on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers Team Manager Foster Namwera has said Lanjesi needs divine intervention.

“This is the same injury that forced me to stop playing football. I also know some players who cut short their careers due to this injury.

“It is scary because every time you turn, you end up aggravating it. The doctors told me that tendons take a year to heal, which is always hard,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bullets are also on the verge of losing two of their prized assets in playmaker Peter Banda and wing-back Precious Sambani, who are on trials.

Banda is undergoing month-long trials at Moldovan outfit Sheriff Tiraspol while Sambani is trying his luck at South Africa’s DStv Premiership side Golden Arrows.
