GOTANI-HARA— Attend the meeting

The long-awaited budget meeting of Parliament will take place from September 9 to October 11, Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani-Hara has announced.

In a statement, she asks Cabinet ministers and their deputies, as well as legislators, to avail themselves of the meeting.

“The office of the Speaker of the National Assembly wishes to inform all Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, honourable members of Parliament and the general public that the 2019/20 Budget Meeting of Parliament, which will be the 2nd Meeting in the 48th Session of Parliament, will be held from Monday, 9th September, to Friday, 11th October 2019, at Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

“All Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers and honourable members of Parliament are summoned to attend the meeting at the time and place indicated until adjournment Sine Die and herein fail not,” Gotani-Hara says in the statement.

Members of Parliament (MPs), who were sworn-in on June 17 this year, did not deliberate on the budget because they met barely a month after the May 21 Tripartite Elections.

After being sworn-in by Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda, the MPs only deliberated on provisional budget.
