“I cannot wait to join my new teammates in Zimbabwe. It is quite a new experience as I am going to a place where there is no one speaking my mother’s language. But it is a dream come true. I will use this opportunity to build my name and soar high,” Mbeta said.

Bulawayo Chiefs Team Manager Fatso Khumalo confirmed that Mbeta passed trials having impressed the technical panel.

“We welcomed Mbeta as a youthful player to 30-day trials but, upon satisfying the entire technical panel, we made a decision to sign him within seven days.

“Chiko is a marvelous and highly talented player who is more flexible on the ball. We are hoping to see him settle and help the team being a force to reckon with ahead of the new season starting off in July,” Khumalo said.

During the trials, Mbeta scored three goals in two games.

Mbeta played four games scoring six times for the Maggie Chombo Academy before earning a call up to the Malawi Under-17 National Football Team in 2018.

He caught the eyes of Bulawayo Chiefs following his impressive performance at the 2020 Cosafa Tournament in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Mbeta is following the steps of other Malawian footballers who passed through Zimbabwe and they include Peter Mponda, Robert Ng’ambi, Joseph Kamwendo, Haji Tambala and Gift Makoloni.
