Bullets, Civo in grudge match

Kamuzu Stadium will be a battlefield this afternoon as TNM Super League defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets and Civil Service United clash.

Both sides desperately need points as they want to close the gap between them and leaders Silver Strikers.

Surely, this will be a grudge match as Civo have a score to settle with Bullets, having suffered an embarrassing 6-0 defeat at the same venue before losing the return fixture 1-0 at home.

Apart from points, records are also at stake in this encounter as Civo are the only unbeaten side in the league whereas Bullets have gone seven consecutive seasons without a home loss.

Separated by two points on the log table, Civo lie second with 24 points from 12 matches whereas Bullets are third with 22 points from 11 matches.

A win for Bullets would take them to second position whereas a victory for Civo would reduce the gap between them and Silver to just one point.

Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa admitted that facing Civil would be a real test.

“We are not looking too much into Civo’s unbeaten run and we know that any team fights against us and we need to pull our socks to beat them,” he said.

Heading into the match, Bullets have injury concerns over some of the players including striker Hassan Kajoke, winger Misheck Seleman, midfielder Chimwemwe Idana and youngster Stanley Billiat.

Goalkeeper Rabson Chiyenda (fractured finger), Pilirani Zonda and Precious Phiri are ruled out of the clash but Miracle Gabeya, Bright Munthali and goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe could be available for selection.

Kajoke, who has scored four goals this season, has not featured for the club since last month due to injury whereas Idana has been captaining the team.

Civo Coach Franco Ndawa said his charges were not intimidated ahead of the clash.

“It is a cracker. We have won several matches away from home and we are ready to give Bullets a good run for their money,” he said.

Civo have won six matches but have drawn the same number of games.

In other matches today, Moyale Barracks host Mzuzu Warriors at Mzuzu Ground whereas struggling Kamuzu Barracks host Chitipa United at Civo Stadium.

Super League action will continue tomorrow, with leaders Silver Strikers facing Chitipa at Silver Stadium whereas Blue Eagles will meet Mafco at Nankhaka Ground.
