Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets rekindle their rivalry in a top of the table clash at Silver Stadium this afternoon.
This promises to be fascinating clash as the match might have an impact in this year’s TNM Super League title race, with the two sides separated by six points.
Silver lead the 16-member log table with 32 points from 14 matches, six points above Bullets, who have played 13 matches.
Heading into the match, Silver have a score to settle against Bullets, having lost 1-0 at their own backyard last season. That time, it was a dull match played on a water-logged pitch but Bullets managed to grind out the result courtesy of Chimwemwe Idana.
Interestingly, both sides head into the match after drawing their last assignments. Silver were held to a goal-less draw by bottom-placed Mighty Tigers whereas Bullets shared the spoils with Mighty Wanderers after a 1-1 draw at Kamuzu Stadium.
It will be the first time the two expatriate coaches, Daniel Kabwe and Kalisto Pasuwa have faced each other.
Kabwe’s side has a good record at home, having only dropped points in a goal-less draw against Tigers and it was also the first time Silver had failed to score at home this season.
The Zambian mentor has assembled a good squad capable of beating any side in domestic football.
Silver Assistant Coach Macdonald Mtetemera was positive ahead of the clash.
“We know they want the league title as much as we do. So, we are preparing well, knowing fully well that they are also a beatable side,” he said.
Striker Maxwell Gasten and Stain Davie have combined well to cause plenty of problems to teams.
At the back, Chisomo Mpachika, Nickson Mwase, Mark Fodya and Mike Robert have been solid, providing cover to goalkeeper Brighton Munthali.
In midfield, Chikondi Kamanga has added stability with Duncan Nyoni, Thuso Paipi and Patrick Macheso being constant threat.
On the part of Bullets, they have fighting spirit in the team.
Pasuwa said his troops will put a gallant fight.
“We just need to prepare physically, mentally and tactically. We do not need to have a big gap between them and us. We need to be good in all departments,” Pasuwa, who is gunning for his third title said.
The Zimbabwean mentor will likely put his faith in goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba whereas John Lanjesi, Precious Sambani, Gomezgani Chirwa and Nickson Nyasulu will cover the goalkeeper.
Chimango Kaira, Idana, Mkwate will likely be at the hub supplying passes to Zicco Mkanda and Hassan Kajoke upfront.
Elsewhere, Wanderers host unpredictable Red Lions at Kamuzu Stadium whereas Blue Eagles will face Ekwendeni Hammers at Nankhaka Ground.
Kamuzu Barracks host Mafco at Civo Stadium.
The Nomads are on position 10 with 18 points from 13 matches whereas Lions are eighth with 19 points from the same number of matches.
