Bullets wary of Eagles’ revenge
Nyasa Big Bullets are playing Blue Eagles this afternoon in the second quarter-final of the Fisd Challenge Cup, fully aware of the policemen’s intentions of avenging their 3-0 defeat when the two teams met two weeks ago in Blantyre.
The Chilomoni Stadium encounter may not have any bearing on today’s match at Lilongwe’s Civo Stadium as it was a TNM Super League but with a semi-final slot of the cup at stake, there will be a lot to fight for.
Strikers Chiukepo Msowoya for Bullets and Eagles’ Mphatso Phillemon are likely to be the main men whose performance will determine the two sides’ fate in the competition.
The two are regular goalscorers whose presence in a match is loathed by defenders and goalkeepers alike.
Team Manager for the People’s Team, James Chilapondwa, said his team will not be carried away by what happened when the two teams last met.
“We had the upper hand last time we played them. But this is a cup match and the dynamics will be different. We need to be very careful as anything can happen,” Chilapondwa said.
He said the team does not have any injury concerns.
Blue Eagles’ General Secretary, Ulemu Kalua, said his team camped outside Lilongwe to finalise its preparations for the match.
“We have a full squad without any injuries and suspensions. We have beaten Bullets before and we can do it again,” Kalua said.
Two other quarter-final matches will be played at a date to be announced by the Football Association of Malawi after they were postponed because of Thursday’s accident involving Malawi Defence Force soldiers in Mzimba.
