There was excitement at Mzuzu Stadium on Wednesday after C Company emerged overall champions of the Moyale Barracks Inter-Company Sports Tournament Regimental championship.
C Company collected 72 points in 22 events.
The team’s commanding officer, Lieutenant Josophat Sinoya, attributed the win to team spirit and hard work.
“This win did not just come. We have been preparing for it for a long time and we have reaped the fruits of hard-work. We will not relent but continue training hard daily,” Sinoya said.
A Company finished as runners up with 39 points followed by Head Quarters Company, which finished with 38 points.
The champions pocketed K100,000 with a trophy and medals whereas the runners up got K75,000 with medals. Third-placed team received K50,000.
Moyale Barracks Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Thokozani Chazema said they were impressed with the organisation of the event which was aimed at identifying talent to form a team to compete in national and international championships.
“This has helped our soldiers build cohesion. We have identified new talent that will represent us at national level. Identified athletes need to intensify preparations to do better in the future,” Chazema said.
Some of the games on the day were football, netball, volleyball, basketball and hockey.
Winners in different categories were rewarded with cash prizes, medals and trophies as well other prizes like corporate clothing and Chibuku crates.
The event was sponsored by different companies including MedHealth Limited, First Capital Bank, TNM, Chibuku, Nico, NBS Bank and Zaliro Butchery.
