Capital City embraces poetry feast
Poetry especially in vernacular continues to enjoy the limelight with the Capital City, Lilongwe slowly growing a strong fan base. This was witnessed during a poetry feast dubbed ‘Chiphwando Cha Ndakatulo’ held at Lilongwe CCAP Hall where a lot of people patronised the event.
It was a platform where poetry was the main headliner but the audience also sampled gospel music performances and comedy. There were also performances from presidential mimickers Aunt Geti, Atcheya and Mr Malawi.
The poetry feast was organised by Blessings Cheleuka in partnership with Joy Radio according to one of the poets Sylvester Kalizang’oma. Some of the gospel artists who performed at the show include Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers and Maggie Mangani.
Comedians Winiko real name Bon Kalindo and Jakobo alias Jakobo also performed. Some of the poets who performed were Joseph Madzedze, Raphael Sitima and Kalizang’oma. – In the pictures Jakobo (right) and Winiko performing and (left) Mangani sings her heart out. —Text by Sam Banda Jnr and pictures courtesy of Sylvester Kalizang’oma
