Capital City Lions golf raises K4m

Lions Club of Capital City fundraising golf held at Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday raised K4 million.
The golf tournament attracted several companies and a one of the teams sponsored by Standard Bank comprising Jochebed Mpanga, Christopher Mpanga and Gift Landisi emerged champions after collecting 82 points.
A team sponsored by Seedco comprising the likes of General Henry Odilo(Retired) and Gift Kawamba came second with 81 points whereas another team sponsored by Standard Bank came third with 80 points.
Nearest to pin went to Bridget Sinthampi whereas Mpanga won the longest drive in the ladies category. The nearest to pin in the men’s category went to Robert Komakech whereas Kawamba won the longest drive.
Lions Club of Capital City President, Pierre Ghasubilagha Mbisa, said the tournament was organised to raise funds for the re-construction of the eye department at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
“We had an overwhelming response and we thank several companies for supporting us. The money realised through the golf competition will help us a lot to construct a new eye clinic in Lilongwe because the facility serves a lot of people,” he said.
Gray Kazima, who spoke on behalf of Standard Bank, said they decided to be part of the noble cause as one way of giving back to the community.
“We are more than a bank and we believe in the welfare of the Malawians. We also want to do more for the people and we did not hesitate to take part in the event because it is one of way of assisting the community,” he said.
Some of the companies which sponsored the event include NBS, My Bucks, Malawi Defence Force (MDF), Seedco, and Med Health.
