Saturday’s Carlsberg Cup final between eventual winners, Be Forward Wanderers, and Silver Strikers grossed K18,155,000 at Kamuzu Stadium.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, released the figures yesterday, indicating that each team pocketed 25 percent from the net, translating to K3,537,953 each.
“The total advanced sales was K9, 586, 000 while total match-day sales was K8, 569,000, giving total sales of K18, 155, 000,” Nyirenda said.
“lt must also be noted that from the 15,000 open tickets which were printed, 1,000 tickets were given to the sponsor, Carlsberg Malawi Limited, as part of the competition’s contractual agreement. The sponsor used the tickets for promotional activities.”
There were also other stakeholders who received money from the gates with Stadium owners, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, receiving K3, 537.953 or 25 percent.
Fam earned K2, 830,362 or 20 percent with Malawi National Council of Sports receiving K707, 590 while Security (Police and Malawi Defence Force) got a total of K1.6 million.
The cost of printing the tickets was K 416,000. The other proceeds went to gate management fees, First Aid and Ambulance, Fire and Public Address System.
