Carlsberg Malawi Limited has cleared the mist surrounding its elite national football cup sponsorship.
The brewer has renewed the Carlsberg Cup deal with the Football Association of Malawi (Fam) for another year.
However, Carlsberg are yet to decide whether or not to continue supporting the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames.
Carlsberg Malawi Senior Brands Manager (alcoholics), Twikale Chirwa, confirmed the cup sponsorship renewal.
Chirwa said they will discuss with Fam on the Flames’ deal.
He said Carlsberg will hold a press conference soon to give an account on the extension of the cup contract and the future of the Flames’ partnership.
“It is true that Carlsberg Malawi Limited has shown continued interest in developing football in the country, but I will not say much as we have arranged a press briefing in due course to highlight more details,” Chirwa said.
He did not disclose if they have increased the cup’s sponsorship.
Chirwa added that giving Fam the nod to kick-start regional qualifiers for the cup was an indication of good things to come.
Carlsberg sponsors the cup to the tune of K40 million.
