With less than 72 hours before the Flames begin their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign against Zimbabwe at the Kamuzu Stadium, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and Flames sponsors Carlsberg Malawi have put in place a number of programmes to garner support for the Flames.
Speaking at a press conference at Fam headquarters in Blantyre yesterday, Carlsberg Malawi senior brands manager for alcoholics, Twikale Chirwa, revealed that the sponsors had prepared a package for both the players and the supporters.
Carlsberg has donated 30 bags and 30 Carlsberg-branded T-shirts for the players to use while in camp.
Carlsberg has also set aside 1,000 tickets to give lucky customers the opportunity to watch the match.
Chirwa said the supporters could also win other Flames regalia, including 500 scarfs, gowns and T-shirts.
The supporters could earn this opportunity by buying five bottles of Carlsberg beer during the promotion Carlsberg would hold on Friday at designated venues in the Southern Region.
“We are fulfilling our obligation as the kit sponsors of the national team. The Flames have to look presentable so that they should have confidence ahead of crucial matches,” he said.
“We are happy that the Flames have been doing well recently. We want fans to add colour in the stands on Saturday. We want it to be a win-win situation so that the Flames should do well and the Carlsberg brand should be promoted as well.”
Meanwhile, Fam president, Walter Nyamilandu, hailed Carlsberg for coming up with the initiatives that will add morale to the players.
“We thank Carlsberg for the good gesture. They have gone beyond the sponsorship agreement that we signed last year. All the good preparations and all the friendly matches we have played, it is because of Carlsberg,” he said.
“The team is ready and in good shape. With God, all things are possible. Let the fans come in large numbers to offer moral support to the players. We want to start the qualifiers on a good note.”
Nyamilandu also urged the supporters to buy Flames replica jerseys to support the ‘Make Them See Red Campaign’ that Times Group is championing in partnership with Fam.
The open stands tickets are at K1,000, MBC stand at K2,500, covered stand at K5,000 while the VIP stand tickets will be at K10,000.
