Well-known golfers, Donbell Mandala and Carol Banda, showed their class when they emerged champions in their respective categories of Nico Life Golf With-a-Twist Tournament at Country Club Limbe on Saturday.
Mandala retained the title in the men’s category for the second successive year.
Playing off handicap 14, Mandala shot 45 points to defend the men’s honour whereas Furkani Gani was second with 40 points.
Mandala said he used his familiarity with the golf course to haunt his opponents.
“Nevertheless, the tournament was great. I would like to thank Nico Life team for working so hard to organise this function,” he said.
In the ladies’ category, Banda, playing off handicap 18, scored 36 points to win the crown. Banda was also on cloud nine having earlier won the nearest to-the pin on hole 10.
Sophie Kalambule, playing off handicap 32, ended on second position with 29 points while Lucy Ganiza was third with 28 points.
In the seniors’ category, Nyankhoko Nsona, playing off handicap 15, scored 37 points to emerge champion.
Kingsley Chimdima Mhango, playing off handicap nine, ended on second position with 36 points. James Chimwaza was counted in after seeing off three fellow seniors, including Bashir Shariff.
In the individuals’ category, Teri Amaru hit the longest drive on hole 18 whereas Salimu Panjwani won the men’s equivalent on hole 17.
Chrispin Ng’oma won the nearest to the pin in men’s section on hole four.
Nico Life Insurance Company Chief Executive Officer, Osman Karim, said the tournament provided a platform for them to interact with their clients.
