CBO commits to pay school fees for vulnerable children

Some orphans and vulnerable children around Michiru Ward in Blantyre will have their school fees paid following the establishment of Chasuka Community Based Organisation (CBO).

The newly formed organisation is made up of people from village headmen Chatha, Suya and Kameza from the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kapeni.

According to village headman Kameza, who is the organisation’s chairperson, they will be paying school fees to those who have been selected to secondary schools as one way of motivating people not to drop out of school of in primary school.

Speaking when they unveiled the organisation’s manifesto, Councillor ,Peter Kajiya, said there is a high number of children in the area who, despite being selected to go to secondary schools, dropout due to lack of school fees.

“It also pains me very much to learn that bright children fail to continue with their education just because their parents don’t have money, while there are some people who can assist them. People should learn to adopt children so that they give them a bright future,” Kajiya said.

The parents will be given soft loans for their children’s up-keep.

Meanwhile, Kajiya has pledged to donate K200, 000 towards the organisation and during the academic year he is going to assist 12 children from four secondary schools regardless of their family status.
