Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has announced the deployment of over 500 people to monitor today’s elections.
CCJP National Coordinator, Boniface Chibwana, said the monitors will follow up on every aspect of the electoral process, including voting, ballot counting and tabulation of results.
“The monitors will issue a preliminary statement within days following the election. The mission includes long and short-term monitors and observers who will cover all 193 constituencies. They will work hand-in-hand with international observers and those doing election-related work,” Chibwana said.
He added that short-term observers would monitor voting and counting processes in polling stations.
CCJP monitors and observers are expected to issue periodic election updates during the electoral process, and all the activities have been funded by Misereor, a conference of the bishops of Germany.
