Centenary Bank supports refugees

Centenary Bank Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering refugees with knowledge on finance and offering banking services and products at Dzaleka refugee camp in Dowa District.
For the past five years, the bank has been operating a branch at the refugees’ camp.
In a statement marking commemoration of the 5th anniversary, Centenary Bank Managing Director Zandile Shaba said the bank’s operation at the site has significantly impacted lives.
She said apart from providing financial services, the bank has created job opportunities for refugees, and empowered them financially to support their families
“This has contributed to the overall development of the refugee camp and has reduced dependence on external aid,” she said.
Shaba said the bank’s initiative at Dzaleka refugee camp is in line with its aspiration of contributing towards the national financial inclusion agenda.
“Through this initiative, the bank has shown that financial inclusion is not just a matter of profit but social impact also.
“The bank will continue to prioritise financial inclusion as a key component of development initiatives. By including marginalised communities in the financial system, we can create opportunities for economic growth, social mobility and overall well-being,” Shaba said.
She said the bank has been operating in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Food Programme towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
