Central Region concludes beach soccer Presidential Cup

Central Region Beach Soccer Committee over the weekend hosted finals of this year’s Presidential Cup at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.

During the finals a team called Malawi was crowned champions after collecting 20 points, followed by Sunbird Livingstonia with 18 points.

For being champions, the team pocketed K100,000 and a trophy, whereas Livingstonia received K50,000.

In the individual awards, Miyaka Asani finished as the top scorer with 10 goals, whereas Nelson Kawonga was voted Player of-the Tournament. Each pocketed K10, 000.

Victor Mangani of Tourism was voted the most dedicated personality and received K5,000.

Central Region Beach Soccer General Secretary, Allie Mwachande, said the tournament was exciting and entertaining.

He also appealed to the corporate world to sponsor the sport.

“Beach soccer fans are so supportive and ready to market the companies’ brands through the sport,” Mwachande said.

The tournament attracted nine teams from the region. Beach Soccer Association (BSM) President Kondwani Gondwe, who graced the finals, also urged the companies to sponsor the sport.
