Central Region select clubs formed
CENTRAL Region Netball Committee (CRNC) has assembled two select netball teams comprising players identified from Gateway Mall Netball Challenge.
CRNC announced the select teams on Friday during a press briefing held in Lilongwe ahead of the Challenge finals scheduled from September 1 to 2.
The under-21 and senior select teams will be playing friendly matches against their regional counterparts, CRNC General Secretary, John Mhajiri, said.
“The journey has been good since we started and we are looking forward to the finals,” Mhajiri said.
Sponsor of Central Region Netball League, Malawi Property Investment Company Limited, Marketing Manager, Ellen Nyasulu said the formation of the two teams was a step in the right direction.
“Our objective is to develop netball but we are also happy because we have empowered the girl child through the netball sponsorship. As a company, we are glad because netball has greatly improved in the region,” Nyasulu said.
In the forthcoming challenge, eight teams will compete in regional finals. Defending champions, Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets, Mafco Soldiers and Green Sisters were seeded from the play-offs.
Boma Sisters, Dowa Sisters, Kasungu Police and Kamuzu Barracks Lioness qualified for the finals through play-offs. This year’s tournament started in April at the district level involving 10 teams.
Mpico is sponsoring the competition through Gateway Mall to the tune of K25 million.
