CFTC receives public service award
Capital Hill has awarded the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) for its outstanding performance in public service delivery during the 2015/16 government’s financial year.
The award was presented during the launch of the Managing for Development Results Learning Week which took place on Tuesday at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe.
The week—which is themed Embracing a Results Culture—was based on the Organisation Performance Agreement that the Commission signed with the Office of the President and Cabinet.
Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Goodall Gondwe, who presented the awards encouraged the winners, including the commission to keep up the good work.
“Let me congratulate all institutions that have won the awards today. I would also like to encourage them and of course others that have not won to work harder to develop this country,” said Gondwe who presented the awards alongside Chief Secretary Lloyd Muhara.
Speaking after receiving the award, CFTC Executive Director, Charlotte Malonda, said she was delighted with the award.
“We have an excellent team at the CFTC. These results show the great efforts by the team. I hope we will win more awards because we believe the sky is the limit,” Malonda said.
She said that the recent award is the fifth that the Commission has received since its establishment a few years ago.
“In 2014, in recognition of the commission’s initiatives of fighting corruption at the workplace, the Anti-Corruption Bureau named CFTC as one of the top three transparent organisations in Malawi,” Malonda said.
The World Bank Group—in conjunction with the International Competition Network— has for two consecutive years, in 2015 and 2016, awarded the CFTC for its innovative advocacy strategies in the promotion of competition in emerging market.
The Commission was also named as the Best Service Provider during the 2015 Malawi International Trade Fair.
