Malawi National Football Team will know its 2023 African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifiers opponents during a draw to be conducted today.
Confederation of African Football (Caf) announced dates for the competition’s draw early this month.
According to Caf’s calendar, the competition is slated to kick off in July this year.
’’The official draw for the qualifiers will be on April 28 2022. Time will be confirmed in due course,’’ Caf’s communication reads.
Algeria will host the finals next year.
The qualifiers are played at zonal level, which means the Flames will meet a team within the Cosafa region.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said the Flames were looking forward to the draw.
“We made a commitment to be part of this tournament which will help our local players gain exposure,’’ Zakazaka said.
Malawi took part in the 2019 qualifiers but were eliminated in the preliminary round by eSwatini on away-goals rule following a 1-1 stalemate on aggregate.
The Flames have never qualified for the competition’s finals.
