“The launching ceremony of my book is all set and all arrangements have been finalised. It is my hope that many upcoming players will learn one or two things through my biography,” he said.

The former Bata Bullets (now Nyasa Big Bullets) captain is one of the few examples of former footballers who have gone through tough times after retiring from active football Gondwe is now a pastor after well-wishers paid for his theological studies in Lilongwe.

Rev Reuben Chilera authored the book which depicts Gondwe’s wayward life including multiple sexual relationships and going Awol (absent without official leave) from training camps during his playing days.

Seasoned football administrator, Jim Kalua, said the ex- Flames star deserves special recognition for his contribution towards football.

“We cannot talk about local football without Chancy. He was an exceptional player. Time has come for us to focus on the positive contribution that he made to the game. It is my hope that current players will learn a lot from the reformed Chancy,” Kalua said.

At the peak of his career, Gondwe played for top South Africa Premier Soccer League teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Wits University and Bloemfontein Celtic.
