Chawanangwa Kaonga hopes for a better season

THIRSTY TO ACHIEVE MORE—Kaonga

On and off Flames attacker Chawanangwa Kaonga says he will improve his performance at TS Sporting Club to help the side earn Premier Soccer League promotion next season.

Kaonga said he was happy at the GladAfrica Championship side.

“I have to admit that it was a tough season. The lockdown also made it difficult for me to settle quickly. But I love the club and it will be good for me to help the team to get promoted next season,” he said.

Kaonga joined Sporting on a three-year deal in January this year from Mozambique champions Costa do Sol.

The club survived relegation by a whisker after Mbombela United were docked 24 points for featuring an ineligible player.

Kaonga scored a single goal in the just ended campaign but provided several assists. His performance in his debut season also attracted the interest of some teams in the Premier Soccer League including runners-up Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and Chippa United.

Kaonga is highly rated at Sporting due to his skills and good altitude.

Sporting owner Slungu Thobela indicated early this year that he was not ready to sell the former Silver Strikers and Civo Service United attacker.

“Players like Chawanangwa Kaonga are the players that can make this possibility [PSL promotion] become a reality. He is quick, he is good on dead-balls, can cut in and take shots, he can shoot from distance. He is a unique player. It is very difficult for me to compare him,” Thobela was quoted as saying on www.kickoff.com early this year.

Before joining Sporting, Kaonga netted 10 goals in Mocambola League as he helped Do Sol to the win the title. He scored a brace in the last game of the season.
