Chawanangwa Kaonga ready to quit Mozambique club

Former Silver Strikers forward Chawanangwa Kaonga says he will not extend his stay with Mozambican club, Chibuto FC after the expiry of his contract in October this year.

Kawonga joined the club in 2014 on a two-year deal in a reported K6.5 million fee and has scored vital goals for the club.

However, in an interview on Tuesday, Kaonga admitted that he is home sick and ready to quit the Mocambola League outfit.

“I am ready to leave the club in October. I will be a free agent so I will see what will happen,” Kaonga said in a written response.

Silver and Nyasa Big Bullets have expressed interest to sign the talented forward. Bullets have been long-time admirers of the forward.

The former Under-20 striker said he has not made up his mind on which team he will join after the end of his contract with the Mozambican club.

“It’s true that Bullets and Silver are interested in my services. But I am yet to choose between the two teams,” he said.

Bullets General Secretary, Kelvin Moyo confirmed interest in the player but refused to give more details on the matter.

His Silver counterpart, Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda, said discussions with Kaonga are progressing well.

“We are still discussing with him. Let’s wait until October but for now he is a Chibuto player,” Chakaka-Nyirenda said.

Kaonga has scored eight goals in the Mocambola League this season as Chibuto FC are on position four with 38 points from 23 games.
