BY PETER KANJERE:

The game was for Mozambique’s top-flight league but this was the show of Malawians— Chawanangwa Kawonga and Matthews Sibale— who combined to devastating effect as they led Costa do Sol to a 2-0 win over hosts Maio de Quelimane on Sunday.

Mozambique newspaper, Verdade, reports that the former Silver Strikers forwards helped Costa end a two-game winless run after they had drawn and lost the previous games.

Sibale, the Malawi top scorer of the 2017 season, opened the scoring in the first-half before Kawonga sealed the win with a free-kick to keep Costa on 10th place with 17 points from 15 games.

In a telephone interview, Kawonga Tuesday said he was happy to increase his tally to six league goals. Sibale also has six league goals.

Costa have finished the first-round, whose leaders are Ferroviaro de Maputo, with 29 points from 15 games. The leaders defeated Vilanculos 1-0 at Machava Stadium on Sunday, thanks to Kelo’s goal.
