Chaz’s ‘Misnomer’ trailer released

A trailer for the film titled Misnomer, which digs deep into abductions and killings of persons with albinism, is out.
The film, by United States of America (USA)- based filmmaker Chaz, will be showcased end April or May in the country.
“We are yet to come up with tentative dates but we plan to launch it in April or May in Malawi. The full trailer is out and I am happy with the reviews of the trailer so far. People are excited about it and we are also excited,” Chaz said.
He said he created the movie because he wanted to entertain while creating awareness on the issue of killing of persons with albinism.
“There have been so many documentaries and movies made about the issue, but sometimes you have to do it differently and like, for example in the film Hotel Rwanda, there is a lot of awareness because of entertainment.
“So it is an investigative movie where people will see a lot of action, emotions, laughter and romance; everything is in there but the main subject is awareness on killing of persons with albinism,” Chaz said.
Chaz comes out with Misnomer having successfully launched Highbrow.
Shot in Malawi, Chaz said the film includes Zambian actor Grace Rumsey, with Malawian actors making up the rest of the cast.
“There are new actors and some actors have been retained from Highbrow. We had a challenge to find persons with albinism who could act and, eventually, we got five or four in the movie playing major roles including Ian Simbota,” he said.
On featuring a Zambian actor, Chaz said this was part of broadening the scope and also cementing the partnership between Malawi and Zambia.
“Malawi and Zambia are one and, as neighbours, we can always work together including in the film industry, hence working with Grace. Some of the actors are Malawians but based in USA and that’s Victor Kamwendo and Gordon Kumbatira and they have been in Hollywood movies,” he said.
The other actors in the film include musician Tay Grin, Mwai Simbota, Hope Chisanu, Joyce Mhango Chavula and Dipo Katimba.
