Che Nkope’s turn

He has, with Nancy, inundated us with messages about relationships.

Relationship-this, relationship that. That is Che Nkope and Nancy, the woman personality— is it character?— at their usual best. They flood our minds with illusions, specifically those that border on love relationships.

For the most part, if one has to replay radio clips of Nancy and Che Nkope, topics of discussion often border on stereotypes. For example, from Nancy’s nagging, one quickly surmises that the script is based on the [mis] conception that women are nagging creatures.

Even stand-up comedian Daliso Chaponda alluded to that in one of his acts, wondering why he, as a man— a bachelor, in this case; perhaps we can include spinsters, too— cannot “nag myself”!

Yes, nagging oneself!

Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!

I simply do not know what that means. Whether nagging oneself is beating oneself on the head, on the chest, in the stomach, or whatever body part. Maybe Daliso will tell us what he means by “nagging myself”.

We never know; maybe he even nags himself! Ha !Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha !Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!

Thing is, Nancy nags Che Nkope in three-quarters of their conversations and, often, Che Nkope is at pains to, let us say, ‘nag back’. He is often reduced to saying “Mmmmmmmm, mpaka pamenepo [to that extent]” and like stuff.

Nancy is something. Really.

Not in real life, though. I saw her in Limbe, Blantyre, sometime back. She was walking slowly, as if she were walking on a broken down wooden bridge!

But I did not speak to her. I was afraid of the nagging. It is better to nag oneself than being nagged by Nancy! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha !Ha!

As for Che Nkope, he is an affable man. Deliberately reserved maybe.

The other thing he is an avid follower of Comic Relief. Yes. This column.

I have come across him several times, in Blantyre Central Business District and such as places. All the time, he reminded me of my most recent entry of Comic Relief, which is humbling because Che Nkope Nicolas Mbonera is no ordinary man.

And, then, I was even more surprised to learn, this week, that Che Nkope has found a real-life partner, and not the radio character Nancy.

Yes, Che Nkope is marrying!

The one who has ‘stolen’ Mbonela’s heart is Sivia Jana, who is set to wed our man at St Paul’s Cathedral in Blantyre on December 26. A day after Christmas!

He must be the happiest man on earth.
