Nyambadwe Ground in Ndirande, Blantyre, turned lively on Sunday afternoon when it hosted prayers and celebrations for Chief Che Somanje Makata, with art standing out.

There were several activities during the celebration, which attracted an impressive audience, with people enjoying performances from, among others, Floor Steppers and Mizu as well as comedy from Precious Denja and Isaac Bonongwe.

Mizu excited people with their dance moves and were a centre of attraction with their vintage attire.

Having performed at Club 24/7, Floor Steppers, a dancing group, decided to spice up the celebration as a group based in Ndirande.

The chieftaincy of Che Somanje Makata had been characterised by wrangles before the court ruled in favour of Che Somanje Makata.

“We thank God that the court ruled in favour of Che Somanje Makata and we thought of holding prayers and celebrations. It’s been a good outing with a number of activities,” Che Somanje Makata said.

He said Ndirande Township is a hub of talent in various disciplines, including dance and music, and that he was happy that the youth took part in the celebrations by showcasing their talents.

Presidential Adviser on Local Government and Traditional Leaders Moses Kunkuyu advised chiefs to serve people and refrain from politics and further called upon them to strive to promote and preserve culture.

“You, as traditional leaders, are custodians of culture and, so, continue playing your key role of helping in preserving culture. You should also take a lead role in fighting corruption,” Kunkuyu said.
