Chigamula hikes pool sponsorship

Business person Lefnos Chigamula has increased Central Region Pool League (CRPL) sponsorship from K750,000 to K1 million this year.

He announced the increase during a prize presentation for the just-ended season on Sunday in Lilongwe.

Chigamula said despite several challenges, the season was a success.

“I am really impressed with the progress of the league. I promise my full support so that we can take the sport to another level,” Chigamula said.

During the ceremony, Fresh Air were crowned champions after collecting 117 points followed by Queens Park on 115 points.

Special Brew National Champions, Siege, came third with 111 points.

Nalero and Yankho finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

For being champions, Fresh Air pocketed K300, 000 plus a trophy whereas Queens received K200, 000.

Fresh Air also won the Zero Degrees Annual Pool Tournament and pocketed K75, 000 plus a trophy.

CRPL Chairperson, Franco Banda, hailed Chigamula for his continued sponsorship to the league.

“It was an exciting pool league and the players were excellent throughout the season. The league also exposed many talented players and we are grateful to the sponsor,” Banda said.

But Banda issued a stern warning to teams against forfeiting points next season, saying they will be expelled from the league.

According to Banda, many teams failed to honour away fixtures last season due to lack of resources.

The new season is expected to start in March.
