Chilima impresses in basketball tourney
VICE President Saulos Chilima put up a five star performance in the Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) Build-A-Court basketball tournament at Civo Court in Lilongwe yesterday.
Chilima, who captained Civo Bucks, was the toast of the day with his excellent displays, much to the delight of the huge crowd at the match venue.
His performance reminded spectators that he used to be one of the best basketball players in his heydays.
The country’s second citizen provided several assists as he inspired his side to a 56-55 victory over a Diplomats’ team. He was however substituted in the third quarter with a minor right elbow injury.
Speaking after the match, Chilima said he was satisfied with his performance.
“We need to take part in such initiatives to develop the country. It was also important for me personally to roll back the hands of time so that people see for themselves that I am a true sportsman. Despite not finishing the game, I played well,” he said.
The tournament was organised to raise funds for the construction of a modern basketball court in Lilongwe. Cezobal Chairperson, Hellen Chabunya, described the tournament as a success.
The league is looking for K25 million for the project, which will also benefit other sports disciplines like netball, volleyball and tennis. The tournament realised the sum of K12 million from donations.
