Officials behind Chilima Movement have said what is circulating of changing a name to Transformation Movement will be communicated to by their leader Vice- President Saulos Chilima when he engages the public again.

Spokesperson for the movement, Joseph Chidanti-Malunga, said this in reference to pick-up vehicles supporters of the movement have bought branded ‘SKC—Transformation Movement’.

“The actual announcement of what this (movement) is going to be will be made by the Vice-President himself when he makes a public announcement which is going to be very soon. Until that time, we shall not say anything and we cannot speculate what is happening. But what I can tell you is this is the hype people have for Chilima and we cannot stop them,” he said.

Malunga said every detail of how the movement will look like including symbols and colours to be adopted will be made known on that day.

“Chilima said it himself that he will contest but will communicate whether he will do that as an independent candidate or will be part of another party. All that we shall know when he makes a public announcement,” he said.

Patricia Kaliati, one of the lieutenants in Chilima Movement, said the wording ‘Transformation’ should not confuse Malawians as it only implies the goal the movement seeks to achieve.

“We just want to have a changed society. Transformation is just change of things, we would like to have transformational leadership not transitional leadership,” she said.

Councillor Lewis Ngalande, who is the interim director of youth and security in the movement, recently said there is no time for the group to form a party.

The movement is still drumming support for the Veep ahead of his declaration of his political career.

Chilima Wednesday last week dropped a shocker at a press conference in Lilongwe by declaring that he would not contest for any position at the Democratic Progressive Party elective convention set for this month.
