The Chill DJs national grand finale will be held in August in Lilongwe, Carlsberg Malawi Senior Brands Manager (Alcoholic Beverages) Twikale Chirwa said yesterday.

The national final was last year held in July but this time around the grand finale takes place in August.

“People should look out for the Chill grand finale in August. There is a lot which people will experience ahead of the grand finale and we are set to hand over the grand prize of the brand new KIA Picanto vehicle,” said Chirwa.

He said they have settled for August this year because it is warm and that they were targeting a bigger audience and at the same time they are looking at a possibility of an outdoor final.

The battle continues in the competition with the last second round taking place in Blantyre at Blue Elephant tomorrow night.

With Mzuzu and Lilongwe already done with their selection having held both first and second rounds, it now remains for Blantyre to select its representatives.

“The first 100 people to enter will get a free Chill. This is a hot party where people will see the best from the DJs. We are also giving out 50 Chill T-shirts and 50 caps. We still stick to our words that people should enjoy responsibly,” said Chirwa.

He said just as has been the case in Mzuzu and Lilongwe, the second round battle has proved to be tough and that in the Blantyre battle six DJs will battle it out to select two representatives and these are DJs Doug Fresh, Nathan, Tunes, Kenori, Trick, Five and Ray.

It remains to be seen as to who will make it through among the six to join Ernie the DJ and Selecta Ghetto Fresh from Mzuzu and DJs Maya and Turnbar from Lilongwe who made it to the national final.

One of the coordinators of the competition Chipi Mzanda, said recently that the second round battles have been tough and that the judges have had a torrid time to select the top two unlike in the first round.

“We are happy with the way things are going and we expect even more competition during the grand finale,” said Mzanda.

DJ Maya seems to be a force in the trade as he already won it in 2013 and is back in the final again this year.

Mzanda said they were learning every year since the Chill DJ battle started in 2013 and that they will be making changes come next year to make it bigger and better and that they were also getting views from people.

For making it to the grand final, the four DJs from Mzuzu and Lilongwe will be given K100,000 plus the other two who will make it in Blantyre.

Among others, Mzanda said the judges are making their selection based on creativity and skill.
