Chimodzi brothers making it in Greece
Attacking midfielder Tawonga Chimodzi-the only Malawian playing at the highest football level in Europe— is reportedly squeezing his way into the starting line-up of Greek Super League side, Athlitikos Omilos Platanias.
At least, that is the impression one gets after visiting Platanias website where Tawonga’s action pictures are now visible.
Tawonga could not be reached for a comment, but his father Young Chimodzi Snr yesterday confirmed that patience is finally paying for his children, including Young Chimodzi Jnr.
Young Chimodzi Jnr, who is a defensive midfielder, plays for a Greek second-tier club, PGS Kissamikos.
“It has not been easy breaking through, but they have told me now that the future looks bright as they are able to play some games,” said the former Malawi national football team mentor.
“It is never easy getting into the starting line-up at a club in Europe, but they have been working hard and they are now happy.”
Platanias are eighth on the 18-member league with 18 points from16 games. Olympiakos Pireaus lead on 42 points.
