Chimunthu Banda drums up support for KK school
Former Speaker of Parliament Henry Chimunthu Banda, who is also national chairperson of Nkhotakota Secondary School Alumni Association, has called on different stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at retaining the school’s old glory.
Banda said although his old school produced a number of prominent figures, including himself, its current condition which includes dilapidated structures needs to be rectified.
He said the association has partnered with government to help uplift the status of the school by, among other things, renovating the dilapidated structures and constructing new ones.
The school held celebrations to mark 50 years of its existence recently. The event saw old students of the school from as early as the 1970s joining the current crop.
“We have embarked on various projects to uplift the status of the school. In the short term, we have carried out a number of renovations to the school hall. In the medium term, with resources that we have, we will be repairing hostel beds,” said Banda.
He added that particularly, the alumni have plans to construct a brick fence around the school for security purposes.
He challenged the current students to take care of the renovated structures and all new developments.
Central East Education Division Manager, Billy Banda, hailed the alumni association for the support they are rendering to Nkhotakota Secondary School.
“This is something that other alumni should emulate. We have a lot of schools that are going through a number of challenges, yet they produced people who are prominent figures in different sectors,” said Banda.
He said government needs partners who can help uplift education standards in the country through various initiatives like the ones undertaken by Nkhotakota Secondary School Alumni Association.
