China donates K20 million motorcycles to police
The People’s Republic of China has donated 14 motorcycles to the Malawi Police Service (MPS).
Speaking when receiving the donation in Lilongwe, Inspector General Lexten Kachama, said they are still facing challenges in executing some of their operations because of mobility challenges.
Kachama said there are other places that the police vehicles fail to go to as such the motorcycles are handy for such purposes.
“Police officers are dedicated to duty, however, they are sometimes challenged because of mobility. The motorcycles have come at a right time and will eradicate some of the mobility problems that we were facing,” he said.
On her part, Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Grace Chiumia, who was the guest of honour at the event, appreciated the gesture.
Chinese ambassador to Malawi, Shi Ting Wang said his government is committed to helping the police with the purpose of making the country a safe destination of foreign investment.
“As one of the least developed countries, Malawi is now in urgent need of foreign investment, which could only be realised under stable public security. I hope MPS would make full use of the motorcycles to further improve its performance,” he said.
